NYS is bad, but LI is even worse. If LI succeeded, it would become Massachusetts or California. In-fact, if one were to remove the [albeit minimal] restraints NYS exercises over LI politicians, it would truly be Massafornia! (And considering how bad NYS is, THAT'S saying something!).
And it's not just the pols; it's also the fact that there are so many people there who do not value personal freedom. Where people don't strive to uphold their own freedom and that of their neighbors, you can only have servitude and corruption- and even the more so where you have a large number of people who share little to no common values- be they traditional long-time inhabitants, or the collection of foreigners from all over the world who now also inhabit LI. "Diversity" [whether ethnic, cultural, religious, philosophical- or worse yet, all of the above] equals "divide and conquer".
