Hey all.. My optimum promotion expires in about a month.. Does anyone use satellite?.. I have no choice but to stay with optimum internet due to FIOS not being in my area(Brookhaven). I would like to check out Dish or Direct TV
I had DirectTV with no issues from the company itself except that because your signal is coming from a gadget on your roof, the TV went down a lot during heavy winds and storms. Sometimes, not even so heavy.
I am not a fan of satellite for television. I had Direct TV some 13 years ago and had some outage problems during heavy rain and wind storms. But other then that it was fine. The channels being different channel numbers after having optimum for so long was a bit of an annoyance though.
But Like I said, I prefer having cable. When I was living on Long Island in Nassau County I had optimum for some time and it worked well and was reliable. For me, customer service was just as good.
You could always try to tell Optimum that your thinking of switching to satellite and they may want to keep you as a customer and offer you the same deal you already have.

If you get satellite you are going to have to find an internet provider and phone provider. I called dish and they said I had to get Verizon for the phone and internet, then I said No Thanks.
How is the internet and cable quality of Optimum in Ridge, Brookhaven? I am thinking about moving to Ridge. Just learned that only Cablevision is available in Ridge....
I have a Fios where I currently live in the city and had no major problems over the last 6 years or so.
That is what we did recently. Our DirecTV receiver was was falling apart and about the same time a Dish salesman showed up. We switched to Dish (which we mostly like), saving about $25/month. The DVR is huge, and so far the service and receptivity have been fine. We plan on keeping Dish for two years and then see what DirecTV has to offer. They definitely treat you better when you aren't a current customer.
