I applied, passed the exam, and interviewed. It's been about a month or a little over. Has anyone else heard back from them, and if you are a meter reader already, how long does the process usually take?

Thanks!
My friend applied around the same time. Like you, passed exam/went for interview, has heard nothing. He said the interviewer seemed to be painting a gloomy picture of the position, he thought maybe because he's a senior citizen or maybe they were looking to hire a buddy of theirs.
Just like most cushy jobs like civil service it's probably rigged and very hard to get. Plenty of friends neighbors and family get hired but not the average Joe blow.

I worked at a public utility in California for 17 years, and hired meter readers as well as other office and field positions in customer service. After the test and interviewing those that passed, we established a on year list, with the candidates ranked 1-20 or so. Then for each opening the hiring manager interviewed the top 3 on the list, and picked one. Everyone then moved up one on the list. We had as few as one or as many as 12 hired from each list depending on retirements and promotions. From exam to offer could take as long as 8-9 months.
