A close friend recently won an elected office in Nassau.
He found out quickly just how dirty Nassau politicians are, regardless of party.

A friend of mine is a Town Controller, he cannot even get rid of any of low level the corruption (such as no pay jobs, sweet insider contracts, and patronage) because everyone is protected. He said corruption at the local level is systemic.

My friend was taken to lunch by some big wigs.
They dispensed the pleasantries and got right to business.
Basically said play by our rules, don't rock the boat, don't be a crusader, don't be a hero.
