At some point though you move from being thrifty to cheap and get cheap results. If the job isn’t that complicated why not try some software like Virtual Architect first? Would allow you to play with the layout and color choices and then print out plans. Doesn’t sound like there are structural changes?
Actually, there may be. I need to break through a wall and put french doors. Maybe that's where it gets more expensive
In that case $2500 if it includes plans and filing permits (but not the permit fee) isn’t highway robbery. Maybe see if you can get it for 10% less no tax cash.
I’m assuming the person is a licensed architect so their time is worth money. If they are just a draftsperson with no license then it does seem a bit much, as their time is probably worth no more than $50-75 an hour.
Do you really need a architect to draw up plans and get a permit to re do a kitchen (assuming no change in the footprint) and poke a hole in an exterior wall to put in a door?
