We are currently househunting in this area and many of the homes were built in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Does anyone know if these Levitt built homes were built with aluminum wiring in the houses? Model names are Gladstone, Eaton, Ardsley, Devon, Buckingham, etc. If so, since most of these homes don’t have basements, how much did it cost to rewire the house?
Thanks Chetstash but I am concerned about pigtails because apparently many insurance companies won’t insure homes with aluminum wiring. I’m reading they require total replacement within x many days of closing
It is something to worry about...but its very fixable. Your home inspector will tackle this as part of their report...then if necessary recommend corrective action. It also becomes a point of negotiations for price...and I think you would be looking around 5-8k to bring up to code.

Thanks Pace500 but home inspectors nowadays just flag it as a potential issue if they don’t see it in the panel for a house built during late 60’s early 70’s..... Per electricians, every outlet, switch and opening needs to be checked to rule it out....
Thanks Suzook....wonder why Levitt would deviate the construction of the same models built during the same timeframe.....
It's definitely odd, because these houses are total piece of sh.. I'm amazed they passed building inspections. Someone was probably paid off to look the other way.

Price point, perhaps? Cut corners more profit?
Don't forget that South Setauket has a Centereach zip. The developers fought long and hard to get to use the name South Setauket. (FWIW Historically, South Setauket was in the vicinity of the current day Nassakeag elementary school/ Pond Path/Upper and Lower Sheep Pasture Rd.)

Copper more expensive than aluminum. That's why i'm shocked Levitt didn't use aluminum. Theses houses are total garbage build wise, that's why i would figure they would have used inferior wiring.
