The previous president implemented the prosecutorial discretion memo which severely hampered ICE from arresting anyone that didn’t have serious criminal convictions, gang members included. Combine this with complete mismanagement of the unaccompanied “minor”situation in 2015 (many of which came to LI after being released) and MS13 had a major resurgence on LI leading to spikes in murders and crime causing community outrage. Trump immediately trashed Obama’s memo allowing ICE to actually do their job, since then 100s of Gang members have been arrested and deported and scores of MS 13’s top leadership here have been arrested, charged, or convicted but the FBI Gang task force and local police.
