Please, please, please contact Consumer Affairs and get a list of pool companies to avoid before you hire anyone. Then, get as many references as you can. I owned a pool for 15 years and then oversaw my HOA’s pool for another two. Pool companies in Nassau-Suffolk are so bad that it’s really tough to find a good one.
At one point, I had to sue a company in small claims court for shoddy, incomplete workmanship. I won a $1300 judgment which the owner refused to pay and discovered he had hidden all his tangible assets. Everything that could be rented (and not owned) was rented. A consumer affairs official told me this was a common scenario, with many innocent consumers unable to collect.
The owner retired to Florida and left the business to his daughter, who changed the company name. It’s still in business and awaiting more unsuspecting customers. Don’t be one of them.
