Building Permit Question - Westbury, NY (house, codes, move)

I have a relative that's looking at a house and the staircase faces the front door of the house. They are superstitious and have this ridiculous idea that it's bad luck to have it like that. They asked me if they could either move the front door or flip the staircase. Would a permit be required for either?

Yes. Changing the egress path and stairs have codes to meet.

To fix this, hang a wind chime or crystal half the distance from the door to the stairs to diffuse the chi coming down the stairs to either side. Never place a mirror opposite the front door, as that sends the chi right back out of the home.
