Looking for some recommendations on nice beaches / swimming areas out here that are not on the ocean. Have family coming with small kids and the waves would be too much for them. What are some nice places ether it be north shore or the bay?

Thanks!

A lot of north shore beaches are going to be resident only....you can probably pay a non resident fee to get in.

Sunken Meadow is a state beach, has a boardwalk.

Bar Beach in Manhasset - my in laws used to take my kids all the time. Not sure of fees.

Towns will have beaches but the non resident fee (per car) is probably going to be steep. Town of Huntington - Fleets Cove beach is great for kids. Used to have a playground but not sure if it still does.

Another great place with kids is the playground on the water in Northport.

Bar Beach has a parking fee but otherwise anyone can go.

There is duck crap on the beach sometimes, and you can see industrial waste facilities across the bay on the Glen Cove side, so i don't know if you actually want to go into the water. But its otherwise a pleasant park and lots of playgrounds for small kids.

where are you coming from? There's a bunch along the south shore that have playgrounds and such, although a few are resident only.

One thing I'll say is that unless there's a storm out at sea, the waves right at the ocean shoreline are never really that rough. And whether it's a toddler or a 4 year old, you still almost always need a parent right there with them regardless of it's the north shore, bay, ocean, lake, whatever.

North Hempstead Beach- easy parking, playground to the right but overall rocky but super calm. Parking fee of $10 and you have to be a north Hempstead resident.

Manorhaven is like a resort, has food, drinks, pool and beach and overlooks the bay but further up. It's parking and per person fee and North Hempstead resident as well. I'd do Manorhaven, since has a kiddie pool section with slides and you can do both beach or pool. There is a cap tho on how many non residents you can bring in.

Islip Beach is the bay. No waves. Great small beach. They also have a restaurant, playground, bathroom/showers.
