I came across this interesting article in Newsday and was curious if there are other schools on Long Island that could field surfing teams in the future, if they wanted to?

Please don’t give other Long Island school districts any ideas, lol.
Just another reason to raise school taxes for other useless programs. We will then need swimming teachers, first aid/responders, the assistant to the assistant board of directors, the surf team Superintendent, the assistant surf team Superintendent, the assistant surf secretary Superintendent. I think you get the hint, lol.

Was surprised to hear this on LI. In FL when I was in HS most of the schools in my district had surfing teams.
Yeah, this is the first time I've ever heard of a high school in NY State have a surfing team. I actually get Spanky25's point and I'm curious as to the number of staff/coaches there are for the team.
I think you're confusing "team" with "club". A team has interscholastic competition and usually you have to try out to be on the team. This is a club like any other club for people with a common interest. No reason any school with enough interested parties could have a club. Where I live clubs have to be submitted for approval every year. My son went to a private HS 150 miles inland and it had a surfing club (principal was from SoCal).
As to Spanky's post, I did laugh looking at LBHS' page with 4 superintendents for a dinky little school district.

I also think this may be an offshoot of the big surf competitions LB hosts now. Attracts a lot of attention and money so no surprise there would be interest by the surfers in the high school.

Ahh that makes more sense in most of the FL coastal districts it’s a varsity sport like any other.
