Now what could go wrong with this, Blakeman is good at creating solutions to non-existent problems.

I wish he would focus on the NUMC and tax assessments but that would require some thought.

Quote:
MINEOLA, N.Y. -- A plan to deputize citizens is generating controversy on Long Island.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is taking applications from citizens with gun licenses who want to be activated to assist law enforcement in a declared emergency.

Thursday, there were lines for pistol permits inside Nassau Police headquarters. So far, 80 citizens have answered the call from Blakeman to become provisional special deputy sheriffs.
"I didn't want to wait until an emergency to try and scramble and find people. You have to vet them, you have to train them," said Blakeman.

Blakeman wants to create a database of those willing and who pass muster. They must be 21 to 72 years old and a citizen of the U.S. and Nassau County, consent to a full background check, drug testing, have a doctor's letter saying they are fit for duty and a valid pistol license.

"If there's a Superstorm Sandy event or an act or terrorism, we would use our special deputies to protect infrastructure," said Blakeman.

how you train is how you fight and that doesn’t mean range time shooting holes in paper…

it means proper training in tactics and weapon retention if going out there in the street

I wonder if this is a strike at any rumored state gun regulations by essentially creating a militia.

The unions should be up in arms about this. He's asking for volunteers to do jobs that could potentially be filled by full time dues-paying members, either on OT with hazard pay or by hiring additional full time staff.

The NCPD has not commented, I wonder if they think it’s a good idea. I thought we had a national guard in NY already.

It seems pretty logical when you read into it.
He’s not putting together a posse of gun toting outlaws like the old west.
Which will be the lefty spin.

While this sort of thing saddens libs and is distorted in the Press, it is the sort of forward looking action the general public generally supports (which might sadden the libs in and of itself).

After his last popular action, preventing the trans boys from hurting the smaller and weaker girls, Blakeman appears to be on a roll.

I’d expect him to next come out with regulations helping homeowners to evict squatters. Further distressing the libs.

it’s an individual the right to bear arms ,it won’t change a thing..

especially because it says you already need an existing permit regardless

The news that Blakeman attended the wake of murdered police officer Jonathan Diller must have further saddened the libs. In the first place it was a popular move supported by the folks (horrors!) and secondly calls attention to failed lib criminal justice (double horrors).

Seems like Blakeman has done quite a bit in a short time (proactively protecting the girls sports, proactive safety planning, attending a police officer’s wake, etc.) to make the libs very sad. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Will these deputies be supplied with body cameras ?
When the inevitable lawsuits from citizens arise , who pays out the settlement ?
Food for thought.
