Child Care Costs On LI
Looking over our financials and trying to do some budgeting - what does child care cost on LI? Anyone have rough estimates of weekly costs for the following.
Live in Nanny
Nanny that comes to our home for the day.
Drop kid off at child care business
Thanks.

If you have one child, it is less expensive to use a day care center such as Tutor Time. With more than one child, a live-in au pair becomes economical as well as the benefits of having someone to do laundry, cleanup, etc.
You can get an non-English speaking immigrant either live in your house or come for the day. I prefer the legal route of having a licensed agency with a pre-screened educated au pair who has health insurance. That's going to run about $20K/yr. For day care centers, just make a phone call.

Hi....I have two kids in day care and it costs me about $2200/month but I would say certain centers come within a couple of hundred dollars of that rate.
I know that a full time nanny would cost around $500/wk and a live-in nanny could cost just a little less than that since you're providing room, board and food.

When I had an au pair several years ago, the rate was $140/wk for the girl plus agency fees, plus food. I don't consider room a cost because we already have the room. The amount of additional electricity is minimal. Salary plus agency fees worked out to about $18K/yr., then.

Years ago we had our two boys in Kindercare. It cost us $1600 per month for five days a week. We did it for 6 months as I felt they were not getting the kind of care that was suited to their needs.
Then my friend watched them at the rate of $65 per day.

You're basically getting "two-in-one" - sounds like a good deal!
I understand from my two daughters, that the going hourly rate on LI is between $12 - $15/hr, with the higher amount almost certain for more than one child.
Unless a person has a well paying job or needs the health insurance through the job, many times it doesn't, or almost doesn't, pay to go to work, especially since the childcare is paid with after-tax $$.
