Default Want to move to Nassau County, LI

I am considering Glen Head as a possible town to live in. We are mid 30s with 3 and 1 year olds. We are considering many towns in LI and see value in Glen Head. We are wondering how good is the North Shore School District as compared to say Port Wash, Rockville Center, Herricks school, districts we hear are good but not crazy like roslyn and jericho. I work in NYC and my wife is a stay at home mom. We currently reside in queens and are looking for a home where 700kish is the middle of the road. Our other concern is that we are both from hispanic backgrounds and want a community that will embrace our children and allow them the opportunity to enjoy and be enriched by a nice suburban town in Nassau LI. any thoughts.......

Northshore district is very good. It's not super competitive like Roslyn, Jericho and Great Neck, but still very very good.

Glen Head is a fine community. I don't think you'll have too many issues being of a Hispanic background. Glen Cove next door has a ton of people from central and south america there.

Given your price range, I'd also consider Rockville Center if I were you. Very nice community, great downtown area, much much better commute to NYC than Glen Head, and if you are Catholic, the diocese is right there.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Glen Head

It's important to be aware that more than 7 out of every 8 places that have a "Glen Head, NY 11545" mailing address (8,366 acres) are NOT in the Hamlet of Glen Head (1,068 acres).

For those who may not be familiar with Glen Head:

Glen Head is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the north-central part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Glen Head in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the City of Glen Cove; on the east by the Village of Matinecock; on the south by the Village of Old Brookville and the Hamlet of Glenwood Landing; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Glenwood Landing and the Village of Sea Cliff.

Glen Head is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places with the community name in their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have a "Glen Head, NY 11545" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Glen Head are in the Village of Matinecock, the Village of Old Brookville, the Village of Brookville, the Village of Upper Brookville, the Village of Old Westbury, the Hamlet of East Norwich, the Village of Muttontown and the Hamlet of Glenwood Landing.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html
