Caruso is pretentious and outre, and it really is OUT OF PLACE, in Rocky Point. It belongs down in "Port" as they say, right next to TOAST and PIE ! Get my drift ?
AND it's pricey FOR LUNCH, SMALL PORTIONS, even for lunch AND VERY FEW selections for lunch...one of those places, where you think you have a booger hanging out of your nose, all the time.
To me, Rocky Point is a grass roots, working people community, where you should feel at home, with a booger coming out of your nose, ok.
BELIEVE ME, the lunch specials at Carnival are VERY generous, and around $10.95 ! AND lots of hot bread ! Tell Karen The Waitress, that Mike and Kathy sent you ! She will be happy to advise you on the offerings there, and HONESTLY ! Top your meal off with some nice warm italian coffee of your choice AND desserts from ALPINE BAKERY, SMITHTOWN ! The Lobster Claws ARE TO DIE FOR. You don't have to wipe your nose, correctly, to eat here !
EVERYONE WALKS OUT WITH A DOGGIE BAG !
If you REALLY want to go to Caruso's, you might as well take the trip to La Plage ! THE BEST eclectic restaurant I have been to on Long Island, AND been BACK TO, MANY TIMES ! EXPENSIVE, but why shouldn't you treat yourself, especially for food and drink, EVEN NOW ?

I just saw a report on channel 11 mentioned Tara's in Port Jeff station, $1 burger! I wonder how big it is though. I'll have to try it sometime. Tried that Roadhouse place in Smithtown the other night, while the burger was good, there was nothing on it, and it was kinda small. Would've tasted better if it had some lettuce, tomato, and onions and costed abit less (they want nearly $3 for an American burger).
Only prob I see with Tara's is the area, PJS is a place I prefer to spend as little time in as possible.
DIAMOND WOK had a LOK...sorry...on chinese food, east of 25A for a LONG TIME, and is probably the FIRST chinese restaurant in the neighborhood, somehow they lost interest and couldnt attract ANYONE, but they didn't try hard.
GOLDEN CHOPSTICKS took over the location...or is DIAMOND WOK as another name...and their lunch specials are doing GANGBUSTERS, and that's because the food is actually BETTER !
For slightly, high end chinese in Mt. Sinai, go to LOTUS EAST...awesome food !
HO MING in the Friendly Ice Cream Plaza, in Miller Place, is good, sturdy, and the family lives in the back, if you can believe it !

For fine dining Carusos is a steal (compared to LaPlage)and its not at all out of place. Nor is Sea Basin/Gracies/Kirin(also a steal) etc etc etc.
Youre dead wrong on Rocky Point booger boy but thanks for confirming that you cant buy class in Miller Place .
I'd say Port Jeff has really lost a step since the paid parking fiasco. I agree Canrival is excellent choice up in PJ Station. Great calimari, it aint cheap, but theres plenty of free parking.

Yes the Tara Burger is real and well worth a buck.

We saw the teaser for the $1 burger report on Channel 11 and hubby said, "I wonder if they're talking about Tara?"
I replied, "Nah. Channel 11 is more NYC and NJ."
Guess I have egg on my face! LOL
Tara's uses the $1 burger to bring in the customers, some of home usually end up making up for the loss with their alcohol purchases.
They also have a very reasonable Lobster special, too.
For those unfamiliar with it, it's more of a bar and grill establishment. According to the real Tara and one of her sisters, lots of people bring their kids in on the weekend days because of the cheap eats. Family friendly during the day, adult zone at night.
