Hello, I am a teacher now, with certification from birth -6th grade both regular education and special education and I am really having a hard time finding guidelines and steps to open a preschool on long island. For all those out there that have gone through the process of opening up a preschool, I would greatly appreciate some help to get me started.
You should call Trudy At Miss Sue's Nursery School. SHe is the director. It is such an amazing school! I never knew any place like this ever existed. It is the most warm peopled place and my son who is 2 already knows his abc's and the pledge of allegence! They email pics from class every week---it is an exceptional school. The best thing you can do is learn everything about them and do what they do! Good luck!

I know someone who is opening a day care center - she might have information for you. If you're interested in getting in touch with her, send me a DM and I'll contact her for you.
BTW, in what area are you planning on doing this? Suffolk? Nassau? Town?
I also have a few specific questions that would greatly be appreciated if answered. 1) To open your own daycare what license do you need? Administrator licence? 2) Are the guideline for the state the same for opening up a daycare? What NY state websites do I need to look at? 3) I know for daycare you need to have your center all set up before the license person can approve you, so if I needed to rent a place, I have to rent all that time and not be able to work, is that true? I heard it could take up to a year to get a person to check it out. 4) What are the first major steps I should take and how long does the whole process usually take?
Thank you for all of your answers in advance.

You are jumping all over the place here. What do you actually want to open? A school (preschool) or a daycare center (babysitting)? I think the school would have higher standards since you would be teaching them something.
