You just googled "statistics lie" and didn't even read the article. (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22st...L_enUS311US311) The article mostly talks about vague statistics used in passing, without backup data presented... such as "3 out of 4 people prefer OUR toothpaste".

It does not really apply to this type of poll, which is conducted in a scientific manner and weighted to match the demographics of Long Island.

Stony Brook University got some stimulus money:

$214,000 “to teach scientists how to effectively communicate with the public and the press.”

If you take money from Tony Soprano then you owe him a favor.

So you're saying a well known, highly regarded University that conducts polls of this nature every year, lied and made up poll numbers for a local poll to please Obama?

$214K on one University campus is peanuts. There's main campus, HSC, the incubator, and the new buildings over at the former Gyrodyne land. There are a lot of people on the campuses who will benefit by this training.

The public does not always understand fluent egghead. It's far less expensive to teach the scientific types to communicate to the public than it is to try and 'smarten up' John Q Public.

This is the bigger monster:
Challenges aplenty at SUNY -- Page 1 -- Times Union - Albany NY (http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=768743&category=REGION - broken link)

The new SUNY Chancellor will be earning $490K, plus $54K retirement money, state car & driver, PLUS apartments in NYC and Albany.

I graduated from there. I'm not saying anything about that school in particular but aren't you suspicious of businesses and organizations that get federal money for fou-fou things or contracts and ties to, for example, campaign contributions?

Then why wouldn't you be suspicious of Universities that get "stimulus" money and what's in their best interests? How many jobs are created by teaching scientists how to talk to the press?
