Default Advice on where to live between Manhattan and New Hyde Park

Hi everyone,

My wife and I (no kids) are planning to move to Long Island eventually, and we were wondering if anyone had some advice for our situation. My wife will be commuting to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park by car. I will be commuting to Manhattan by public transportation. Because we don't know the area and may only be staying for a couple of years, we prefer renting to buying, but feel free to offer your opinion.

My initial question is simply what areas we should consider that would (1) give both of us a reasonable commute, (2) are safe, and (3) have convenient access to food and restaurants.

My second question is more specific. We were wondering if anyone knew of a rental with some or all of following criteria:

(1) One bedroom
(2) Washer/dryer in unit
(3) Parking
(4) Walking distance to subway

Any price range is fine; I would like to get a feel for what's available.

Thank you!

Anything in between Manhattan and NHP will be in NYC--I'd ask there. There are a lot of neighborhoods in Queens that would meet your criteria.

You may love the area and the complex. The Bay CLub, in Bayside queens ny.

Bay Club at Bayside, New York

They are not walking distance to train but there is shuttle service provided to the station - (5 minute ride) or a bus stop right outside the complex.

Beautiful place to live.

Lots of luck
