I recently bought a home and I am in the process of choosing a home heating oil vendor. It has been reccomended that I look into different fuel buying groups or cooperatives to compare against the local vendors.
I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with any of these buying groups or has any insight into some of the local vendors they contract through or local vendors in general. They all seem to price differently and tweak their service agreements so I want to try and make the right choice.
The home I moved into is in Massapequa, NY and it has a 275 in ground tank with a new heating system (less than 5 years old).
Here are the vendors I have looked into thus far:
HEAT USA (National Buying Group) who contracts through Port Fuel (Glen Cove, NY). $25 Annual Membership Fee, "Free" Full Service Maintenance Contract (up to one zone, $15 for the 2nd), Price as of 9/3 was $2.35 a gallon and claims to be 10-25 cents below retail at all times.
NYPIRG (Local Buying Group) who contracts through Tragar Fuel - $30 Annual Fee, Free Service and Maintenance Contract, Price as of 9/3 was $2.55 and claims to be 15-35 cents below retail at all times
Perillo Bro's (Local Vendor) - $2.36 first fill price, $2.65 price cap for the year, free service contract
Any insight you can give to make this decision easier will be great!
I've gone every route with heating oil, right down to filling up jugs of pump diesel to heat my home.
The one company I've had the least problems with is Petro.
Notice I said "least problems".
They all suck, but Petro sucked less than the others for me.
I'm probabally going to re-sign with them again when my current contract is up.

oil will be going down between now and november so I wouldnt lock in right away. I locked in last november at 2.44 with slomins.
