Default Why were some LIRR stations abandoned on the Greenport line?

Just curious because I noticed that the Laurel, Cutchogue and Peconic stations were abandoned in the 60s. Anyone know of the history why?

Could be lack of riders/budget constraints???

Probably declining ridership. Before the LIE was built, no limited access highway ran east of the Town of Brookhaven, so there was a lot more demand for train service out east.

The LIRR has closed tons of stations over the years, though. At one point there were probably twice as many as there are today!

The very tiny Setauket station was closed around thirty years ago.
