Hey, I already went to hopstop.com and they do NOT have the option for "Long Island" . . . and here my problem lies.
So, on Saturday the 28th, I need to get from Jackson Heights (Queens) to the Valley Stream area of Long Island (Berry Street). I need to know what trains to take . . . I'm on the #7 subway line. Thus, do I go to Manhattan on the #7? Or do I change to the E, F or R at 74th Street and go to Manhattan from there?
I know there's a LIRR station in Valley Stream, where someone is planning on picking me up once I arrive. Thus, how do I get from Queens to the LIRR Valley Stream station? Please help! And thank you for your help ahead of time!
Take the E train but instead of going to Manhattan, go east to Jamaica station. There, you can change to LIRR. Trains to Valley Stream are frequent--even during off-peak hours, you shouldn't have to wait more than half an hour.
You have a couple of choices, none are difficult. Options including the LIRR are more expensive if that is a concern.
Option 1: Take the #7 to 74th St / Broadway /Roosevelt Ave. station. Change for the E train towards Jamaica. Take the E train to Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue. Change there for the LIRR to Valley Stream.
Option 2: Take the #7 to 74th St / Broadway /Roosevelt Ave. station. Change for the E train towards Jamaica. Take the E train to the last stop, Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer . Transfer for the N4 bus to Freeport. The bus runs along Merrick Road and will leave you closer to Berry St. than the other options. This is also the least expensive option. LI Bus honors the Metrocard transfer from subway to bus and vice versa. Expect this to be the slowest option unless you plan to walk from the LIRR Valley Stream station to Berry St.
Option 3: Take the #7 train to 61 st / Woodside. Change there for the LIRR to Valley Stream.
If the schedule permits, try to catch a LIRR train to Westwood station on the West Hempstead branch. Unfortunately, service on this single track branch line branch is limited to a few trains during peak hours and only very few trains off peak. The station is, however, a very short distance (maybe 1/2 mile) from Berry St.

You could take the N4. It goes along Merrick Road. If worse comes to worse, you could take the N1 if you're traveling during rush hour, or you could take the Q5/Q85 if you're near the Valley Stream Mall, but the N4 should be the fastest. It's pretty frequent throughout most of the day.

I think that branch has no more weekend service. My SIL lives on the West Hempstead Line and we used to see her when we lived in NYC.
