it was near long beach road. Interested in Rockville, mapped out the area, then saw that ad and became dismayed.

yup, RVC has it's "bad areas", but they're well isolated from the nice parts.

Wow! Section 8 is housing assistance, folks. It does not mean the neighborhood is going downhill. Where do you want them to live? Pitch a tent somewhere, as long as it's not in your backyard? I can't fathom how incompassionate some of the members are. Oh well, that's the new Long Island mentality. There are needy people out there...single mothers, poor families, disabled veterans...and they all need assistance. Have you no heart? The more we think it will affect our precious property values, the more it will. Or, at least, you will be quick to blame that as the leading factor in the event of a downturn. What if it were you!!!

BTW, I was born and raised on Long Island. I might move, one day, but it wouldn't be because of Section 8 housing assistance. It will be for my disgust of certain attitudes that many Long Islanders have. I am certain that there are those who will celebrate when I do move. It will be one less dissenting voice.

What did the sign say exactly? Is it an apartment building or house?

For what it's worth, I do know someone on Section 8 who lives in RVC. She lives in a regular apartment building (not a project and mostly non-Section 8). She became disabled after being in the workforce for many years in the healthcare industry. She goes to church, volunteers to feed the homeless, and is a chaplain who helped people on 9/11 in Manhattan. She makes a good neighbor and has lived in her building for many years and has a lot of friends there. Not everyone who has Section 8 is terrible. It's better to judge people as they come.

You are absolutely right! I know that and I really wish I could say that my experience with section 8 neighbors were forgettable but they weren't. If I find the link I'll PM it to you if you don't mind. Thanks

I also wonder, not being familiar with the area, how do I know I won't be in close proximity. Is Section 8 in Rockville restricted to a certain area or can any beautiful home on the west of the peninsula have it? How does one know these things just by driving around. So far, I like the area near the Watson school and N.Village library because it's close to the elementary and middle schools and library and sunrise highway has all the karate, dance, pharmacy etc....within walking distance. Should I be leary of being to close to sunrise highway north?
