Being somewhat in the entertainment business I have to say...
The bar/club/restaurant business took a huge hit this year due to the economy crap.
I don't think there is any one area in particualr these days.
But, most of the popular haunts are still popular, just not as popular.
Business has been very spotty, and with all the rain early in the summer it nearly put a few places out of business.
The strip on Beech Street in Long Beach, The Nautical Mile in Freeport, Under the bridge in Island Park(Paddy Mcgees, Coyote Grill, Montego, etc...)The usual Hamptons hotspots still kick in the summer. In a way, it's been kinda nice with the less crowding and drunktards running around. This time of year, everything normally is slow, but this year in particular is dead, and quite a few of the places that stay open year round are are actually closing down for the season or cutting back the hours to weekends only. I feel it in my wallet big time.

A friend owns a local neighborhood place, which sees less of a roller coaster than the shoreline areas, but his only bright spot has been the middle of the week baseball playoffs. People's behavior who do go out has also changed. No longer just "open a tab"...a lot more pay as you go.
I went out in Huntington over the summer with some HS friends, haven't been out there in quite a while, it was as packed as it ever was when I was a young-un there.
Hampton Bays. You aren't referencing the Boardy Barn, Crooks?! Say it ain't so!

Foggy Goggle (altho I think it's gone), Jet East, CPI, Beach Bar, Neptunes, Summers- although those are both in East Quogue, technically. There are a lot of places in Hampton Bays/The Hamptons.
