Good morning all,

I'm looking to purchase in Suffolk county not sure yet as I'm stilling doing research, places that we are interested in so far is Kings Park, Smithtown and Commack. By the time we purchase and move the kids will be 3 years old. What is the average of child care cost. It is costing us now $1400 in Brooklyn for both kids. I'm a little scared because we will be paying alot of taxes along with child care for two years since schoold doesnt start until they are 5.

Thanks

I pay 1290 per kid in Melville ( 8am-6pm 5 days a week), but you can find something for 1100 close by. 1400 for 2 kids is cheap, but I am not sure what kind of arrangement they have.

What kind of child care? Public or private daycare? Nanny? Full time, part time? Prices are all over the map, but overall really expensive (no surprise there). Figure at least $1K for full time public daycare PER child. See Child Care of Suffolk, Inc. for information:

Child Care Council of Suffolk - Long Island

Also, don't know your working situation, but there are companies on Long Island that offer ONSITE daycare.

Day are in regular Day Care I think it is public, so something public or private would be just fine. Wow, it seems it'll cost me $600 more to put them in Day care, I guess we wont have a choice. I'll only be two years. Do you know if suffolk county has free pre-school? I know most schools starts at Kindergarden at age 5 but I was thinking maybe there are some that starts at 4? That might help us with only just paying child care for a year instead of two

Thanks, so I will be paying 2g for two kids plus high property tax. I guess it'll be worth it as long as we get a good deal on a home. If we wait until they are 5 than prices of home might level off and we would have to pay alot more.

thing is, even if kindergarten is full day, you're going to need some sort of care after.

at least, i know WE will.

i wish this expense was ending sooner, but i think it's going to last well into their school years.

we pay $1250/month total for 2 kids, 2 days per week.

After they get out of Kindergarten, can't you just find some neighborhood 13 year old girl to watch them until you get home from work?
