I wont go into Hempstead day or night. I stopped taking the bus through there years ago, its just too dangerous. It's full of illegals, and looks like something straight out of Tijuana.
The Lighthouse should be built IN Hempstead. We need to turn it into White Plains, with high rises and commercial and reidential redevelopment. But the problem is the political will isnt there, the pols care more about giving the illegals what they want (their run of Hempstead) than improving the area. It is amazing how GC keeps their streets so nice with such a hell in their back yard. Its like they have one of those electronic fences people use to keep animals in or out of their yard...

Are they magically going to say...gee...we have a new hockey area and some shops...lets get the hell out of here

The only way to clean up Hempstead is by encouraging business to go there. You'd have to create some sort of economic zone there that is very low tax on corporations. That would get them to invest there. Then you'd have to build decent apartment buildings and condos. Then you'd have to start enforcing zoning laws and kicking out the illegals. Then you'd have to find new homes for a number of residents.

It's a tall tall task. I'm not sure the crooked pols in LI are up for it.
what makes anyone think the Lighthouse Project will revitalize anything outside its perimeters ?
Visit Atlantic City, walk two blocks away from the boardwalk casinos . You will get a great idea of a "revitalized" area if you survive .

I agree. The proposed Lighthouse project is nowhere near Hempstead Village.

Good ideas, but I would say FIRST the illegal aliens and gangbangers need to go before you can attract any businesses.
