I would like to know if anyone knows someone that went to Empire State College and became a teacher in Long Island or the city.

you asked this same question almost exactly one year ago:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-teachers.html

Please don't tell me you've been trying to find out the answer to this question for an entire year.

Yes. Sorry! I didn't get any info. I believe someone went through this process and has not posted yet. I need some insight to this.

Doesn't Empire State College have a placement office and/or alumni association?

Perhaps they can give you an idea of how many of their graduates became teachers in our area?

You have to be an Alumni in order to get access to it. Darn it!

Smile Closed

I should have called earlier. After my wife's orientation we spoke to a lady and she told us that she was going to get the BA and then the MA program. She stated, which is true, that your last year you are teaching while being observed. I don't know. Maybe my wife should get her BA and then MA at an accelerated course elsewhere.

I replied back to your PM. I think she might like the Teaching Fellows program to teach in the city. She can start almost right away while taking classes for her Masters and getting her certification while she teaches. They also pay for most of the Masters.

If she took under grad edu classes (over 30 credits or so) she would not be eligible for Teaching Fellows. Never understood why they only take people for whom teaching was an after thought.

No, I don't think they need that. People with Bachelors degrees in any field can become a Teaching fellow.
