It is a sad day. I am one of those people that grew up with books in the home and see that as a sign of an educated populace. My parants always taught us that 3 things every home needs is music in the home, a library in the home, and tools in the garage. Our home "library" included the Great Books series, The Harvard Classics, and other great sets. Oh and we also had to read them. Imagine that. The music end of the deal included a piano, guitars, and other instruments that us kids played in school. As far as the tools my dad had a complete wood shop, and nearly any tool that Craftsmen (as in Sears) made. He told us that if you had all three of these things you can accomplish anything. What is sad is that we need to have a place to educate those that are not so fortunate. Libraries are a big part of that.

It may be a casualty of the future due to the very thing we are doing right now [using the Internet for information]. Even large book stores are struggling and closing as a sign of the times and not just because we can no longer afford libraries but that the reading source has shifted to computers and kindles.

Okay then, let us ask the same of Hong Kong...

Or Tokyo...

Or any major city in Asia...
