Hi,
I'm a female looking to move to a safe area that's accessible by El Segundo green line metro station (or close by car). I prefer a 1 bedroom in a suburban environment, but nothing over $1100/mt. Am willing to commute up to an hour. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

So you will be working near the El Segundo Green Line station and you want to find a place that you can take the green line to there? I work about 400 yards from that station.

In general, going east from there gets less expensive, going north or south (nearer to the coast) becomes more expensive.

To meet your hour commute, look anywhere from Santa Monica to Torrance.

HousingMaps and MapsKrieg - CraigsList Apartment Listings Mashed With Google Maps should give you some ideas.

Also Los Angeles Apartments, Orange County Apartments, and San Diego Apartments

You could really open up your opportunities if you considered a room mate. Any chance you would consider such? You could find a pretty junky 1BR in a reasonable area for $1100, but could find a very nice 3BR place, with a room mate, for $2,000. Just a thought.

Hi Charles,

Thank you, I will try those. Yes, I'll be working in El Segundo. I was told that I should avoid areas that would involve commuting on the 405. I was considering Torrance & Hawthorne, but was also told to stay away from certain parts due to high gang areas, but no one seemed to know where those are...

I remember reading that west of Western in Torrance is OK but I don't know that area.

I second the roommate suggestion. You can get some great places cheap AND close to transit.
