Hello, future neighbors!

Our jobs are being transferred to Burbank. We currently live in a suburb of NYC and work in Manhattan. We have three kids aged elementary school to daycare, and we are stumped to find neighborhoods to consider.

We need an excellent public school, with before and after care, and nearby daycare for a preschooler. We'd like to be able to eventually afford to buy a house after renting for a year or two, 3-4 br under 500k.

We are currently happily living in a town that is both ethnically and economically diverse, and we'd like to keep that. We'd also like to have a non-insane commute to Burbank so our kiddos aren't in care for 14+ hours!

Although the company has hired a relocation expert to help us, I sure would appreciate any advice you'd be able to give us. Many thanks in advance.

i would take a look at the santa clarita area. although not as diverse as other areas of LA, the schools are supposed to be good for the kiddos and there's even a commuter train that runs to burbank from the area. your housing budget should get you something pretty nice in the area as well.

I'd second Santa Clarita. Bit of a hike, but given your price range and school desires, you're best bet, at least if its near the train.

Actually, given their price range and school desires, Burbank itself is their best bet.

A person could take a train from Moorpark or Simi to Burbank too.

I'm not sure why people are recommending Santa Clarita. That is one of the least diverse places in LA County. When I was in highschool in Saugus, they actually gave the students a demographics graph, which showed the school was 95% white, 4% hispanic and 1% asian.

If you want good schools and some diversity, you'd be better inclined to live where you work, Burbank.

A 3/4 bedroom house in Burbank will cost more than $500K.
