I have a friend that might be moving to Olympic Blvd between 20th and Cloverfield. Is it a dangerous area since Pico is so close by and there's alot of gangs there?

You have Crossroads a trendy upscale private school to the west, and the office buildings and ralphs by cloverfield. Gas stations just to the south on Cloverfield and of course the 10 freeway. It's a grungy looking area but safe.

The unsafe area you are thinking of is southeast , on Pico Blvd near 28th to to 33rd or so, mainly north of it near Delaware and Virginia, trailer homes and gangs there.

Funny thing is the monster movie Cloverfield was named after that street because the screenwriters' office happened to be located there.

i think the only reason people say the area around pico is unsafe is because it's not 'perfect' like the rest of santa monica. really though, pico is perfectly fine and the odds of anything bad happening to you are unlikely. don't forget that nearly the entire stretch of pico within the city limits of SM is fronted by shops and restaurants, not to mention a very large college, so there is almost always some kind of activity and foot traffic. i would not be concerned living near pico, let alone on the other side of the freeway.

There was a fatal shooting a few months ago at virginia ave park. 20th between pico and the freeway is not great. In reality there isn't an unsafe part of SM though.

As far as the the OP is considering, that area is perfectly safe, and very nice if you're considering that new construction on the north side of Olympic.

there was also a murder in beverly hills last night, so the bigger issue is that no matter where you are in LA, there's always a bit of risk.

sure nothing is 100% safe but I haven't heard of a murder in beverly hills on sunset blvd ever.l, especially since sunset blvd west of weho is dead in the night hours. ast night's incident was a first as far as I can tell. not to say it's never happened but I don't remember if it has. much more likely to get harassed accosted or robbed by virginia park in SM
