Curious what micro-climate within the greater Los Angeles region is your favorite\ ideal climate?

Beach cities\ Westside: coolest by far but too warm for winter frost. Often cloudy for at least part of the day. The only place in LA where it is comfortable on a summer day [70's]. Clean air but also a little humid.

Basin\ downtown\ Hollywood: warmer than the beaches all year but coastal clouds keep it fairly comfortable [near 70F in winter\ 80's in summer]. Smog\ hazy at times. Mild overnight temps\ no frost. Windy in the foothills during santa ana conditions.

Valleys: sunniest\ warmest year-round but colder at night\ occasional winter frost. Hot summers\ 90's. Smog\hazy worse than the basin. Windy during santa ana's\ wild fires common in foothills during autumn.

the coast hands down. i still can't believe people comment on the humidity. it certainly isn't dry enough to crack your skin, but humid not so much. the only down side is the marine layer, but i'll take that over 90+ degree heat.

My favorite is NOT the coast: too foggy and cool.

I prefer mid-wilshrie near La Brea Ave./Wilshire Blvd. The BEST climate in LA for me. Not too hot in summer yet PLENTY of sunshine and MUCH LESS fog than our miserable beaches.

The air is much more moist than anywhere else in the city, naturally. The higher humidity is noticeable in summer. The temp may be barely 80F but the mugginess is apparent especially if away from the beach breeze . But most of the time it is really nice.

I tend to agree with Island_OnThe_Land that the happy medium is somewhere between Westwood into Koreatown. AC is not a daily necessity & low 80's isn't too difficult getting use to. I can feel the difference in temp by taking the Gold Line from Union Square to Pasadena. Downtown can be pretty nice while in Pasadena people tend to avoid the outdoors if possible on a typical summer afternoon & before the sea breeze kicks in.

Either coastal areas or mountainous areas. Close proximity to the ocean keeps things relatively cool as does high elevation. I'm not a fan of hot weather, so I like areas that stay cooler. Seal Beach, coastal Long Beach, Redondo Beach -- those areas have nice climates. Or drive up to Wrightwoood or Big Bear for mountain areas; but coastal areas tend to be cooler than mountain areas in summer.

Love the coast: Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Hermosa Beach. Malibu, Newport Beach, etc

The coast. Because of the mild temps and no frost and higher humidity I can grow a lot of tropical flora that would die or look like trash if I lived more inland. Also, cleaner air.

I would imagine the coast - though I've never lived there. I would love not to live so far inland. Seems like the coast has the most beautiful weather ever.

I'll take anything, as long as the temp doesn't exceed 75 F and the humidity doesn't exceed 50%.

The coast is certainly the most moderate; that climate is probably my favorite even though it can be quite cloudy and cool in the spring and early summer. When I drive on the 405 from the Valley to the west side during hot weather, I like to put my hand out the window and feel the temperature dropping. It's such a huge difference in a very short span of time and distance! I find it interesting that the Santa Monica Mountains are so effective at blocking the ocean breezes.
