Hi everyone! I scanned through the posts looking for the answers to a few of my questions (not wanting to re-post) and couldn't seem to find them, so maybe someone could help me. I'm 21 and planning on attending FIDM in Los Angeles. I believe I am going to be staying at the medici apartment complex, which I find to be ungodly expensive ($1650/month). I am just wondering...is there anyone who lives in a small apartment in LA that could tell me how much their utilities usually costs? [meaning gas, electric, DSL, and water expenses] Thank you SO much for your time! Sincerely, Kai10 Marie

You're staying in a place by yourself?! Wow, your parents must be loaded!

Study hard and be successful. Don't coast and fizzle like most of the FIDM students. Putting some effort into your studies instead of your hair, nails, and partying will put you ahead of 95% of the class.

Utils will run you approximately:
Electric: 60/mo
Gas: 20/mo
Water: 10/mo
DSL: 60-100+/mo if you're dumb and get the full package deal. Ask for the minimum service (it's all you need and really usually all you get, anyway) It'll be like a 128KB/sec down/72KB/s up. It's usually called "*insert name of cable plan* Lite" That will only be about 25/mo. 40/mo with broadcast basic cable.

Suggest you don't pay for additional TV since there's plenty of entertainment everywhere besides the boob tube here.

If you wanna save money, you can probably find a single apartment within a reasonable distance for 1200-1000/month.

my 4 adult household's electric and water bills average about $100/month EACH. sorry for being such energy hogs

cable TV, cable or DSL internet are about $60-120 combined just like anywhere else in the country. it just depends on how much you want. IMO you don't need to pay for TV in LA as a UHF antenna will pick up perfect signals from Mt. Wilson even in HD (you just won't get the cable-only channels like ESPN).

I see you got some answers to your questions. I agree that you don't need the full package cable service. And if you're really applying yourself at school as well as planning for your future, you won't have a lot of time to watch TV. I don't know how well FIDM prepares you for the 'real' fashion industry, but I hope you'll learn some skills (like patternmaking etc). It's really difficult to start your own line - unless you've got rich relatives. So, you'll need a skill that will help you get your foot in the door of the industry.
Good luck and I wish you much success.
