I'm moving to SM this week and am working in downtown LA. My hours are a bit flexible, so I'm trying to figure out when the best time to leave SM in the morning is in order to avoid a horrendous commute. Does anyone know what time in the AM contains the heaviest flow on the 10? Would I be better off leaving at 7:30-45am or waiting till 9ish? I'd like to avoid being in my car for more than 35-45 mins if possible. Thanks for any input.

Check out sigalert.com during the times you are considering. This commute you are describing is pretty bad. Would you consider living closer to work? There are a lot of people on these forums who are experts on neighborhoods near downtown, they will probably chime in and make recommendations.

waiting until later would be better, but still not the short commute that you want. traffic on the 10 doesn't begin to move at a reasonable pace until after 10am.
