I'll be in LA for one night staying near LAX. I would love to watch fireworks from the beach. Where is the nearest place from LAX?

Thank you in advance!

marina del rey had NYE fireworks a couple of years ago, which is just down the road from LAX.

Just don't shoot them at the planes.

No laser pointers, either. I read that Congress recently voted to make pointing lasers at airline pilots a Federal offense, but that one U.S. Senator-- libertarian Sen. Paul-- voted no, saying state laws were sufficient (I guess the planes would pick and choose what states to fly over, hoping there's a contiguous route?).

Check Los Angeles Times - California, national and world news - latimes.com for updates. Long Beach will have fireworks as part of a family-oriented NYE, according to New Year's Eve in Los Angeles 2011-2012 - Los Angeles New Year's Eve Celebrations (I didn't see Marina del Rey listed but they may have something; you might try finding a local restaurant or hotel and ask them). Santa Monica used to have fireworks shows but I heard they were stopped a couple of years ago. About 3 years ago we were in Reno for NYE, and the city announced there would be no fireworks show since so many people were in poor financial straits (lack of fireoworks didn't help them, of course).

I think the closest fireworks you'll see near LAX are the drive bys in Inglewood
