We are moving from a small suburb of Mpls, MN in 2 months. We are currently in a VERY family-friendly city & neighborhood. Our kids are 12, 9 & 6. I have read wonderful things about the public schools in Calabasas. But I can't seem to find any information on the most family friendly & AFFORDABLE neighborhoods. Does anyone know if there are a lot of school-age kids in Calabasas Park Estates? (The less expensive end ($850,000 & less) Also - is there a better website to find rental homes than realtor.com? We can afford a rental upto $5,000 per month. Thanks in advance!

I am moving to Calabasas next month from Chicago. I have found a lot of rentals on Craigslist and Remax.com, Century21.com. Why don't you contact a realtor and have them show you rentals? That's what we are going to do.

Also, is the company providing relocation assistance? If so, they should have realtors they would work who can show you around.

Best of luck!

Also try westsiderentals.com (subscription site but you can browse for free) - that's one of the most popular LA places to find housing.

there are kids all over calabasas, even in the trailer park off of mulholland. calabasas is a very popular location for wealthy families that don't want to live in the city. FYI, besides dealerships, the calabasas high school student parking lot has more BMWs and MBZs than I've ever seen elsewhere.

I can't answer your questions on schools and such, but I wanted to say welcome anyway. I am originally from Rosemount, MN (southern suburb of MSP). I hope you enjoy the area, the weather is definitely a huge upgrade.

Thank you for the insight into the area & the rental info.
Any insight on what we need to set aside for an "earthquake emergency kit"???

You can google for that; you'll get tons of answers.

The bottom line is you should be prepared (have water and supplies stashed somewhere) but then go about your merry business and don't worry too much about it. If it happens, it'll be huge, but it could also not happen for 100 years, so it's not worth worrying every day about.

Default I am Irish Catholic from Scottsdale.

Somewhere on here I read that Cala...was "very Jewish."What is that all about? You do not see Jewish gangs running around beating people.
I do not want to leeave Scottsdale..but a consultant job opened up..so...two condos?
At my age,I do not care about money..but need a relief from doing nothing......I will buy another
house,if they sell to the Irishman. lol
