Do any of you notice temperature changes a lot more now?

My first two autumns here, I kept saying there was no autumn, trees didn't change color and it was still hot...etc.

But now it's my third autumn here, and all of a sudden, I'm noticing it. During the day it's still quite warm...but not 100! The mornings are VERY cool and crisp, which feels nice, and it's windier (I'm near the Santa Anas). And we do in fact have trees that change color...not as many of these in particular, but they exist.

It's funny how the body acclimates and then begins noticing all the small changes. Having lived here, I will never again say, "Southern California doesn't have seasons." They definitely exist.

This might not be big news to anybody else, but I thought I'd share because I've had a hard time situating myself here, and noticing all this is helping tremendously.

I think what really made me notice it, was seeing a Florida poster on another board commenting on the lack of seasons (I mean as regards familiarity to 'seasons' of other parts of the country; obviously Florida has hurricane season, etc.). I've been to Florida, and I can say that by comparison, SoCal definitely DOES have them. It's a really neat discovery.

Yeah there are definitely seasons in SoCal, having lived in northern California for 18 years and then moving down to San Diego I got a good idea of the differences, its basically a much milder version of what the seasons are like in northern California, in the middle of winter, its definitely winter, just some days are warm but at least in San Diego it got pretty cold for a while.

I think it's a little more noticible in the San Gabriel Valley as there are so many deciduous (sp?) trees and lots of older homes with fireplaces. People there also seem to get quite festive with Halloween and Christmas decorations. Something about the foothills...

Oh yaaaaaaay! Peeps answered my post. I thought it would probably sound a little dork-ey (and I'm sure it does) but I'm kind of a nature lover.

Sorcerer, yes, there are deciduous trees here, and yep, people do decorate. Not like me, though! My husband ducks and looks around furtively when he pulls into the driveway these past couple of weeks because he's embarrassed of the neighbors will recognize him. He begged me to wait to decorate this year "at least until it's fall!" so I waited until September 22nd.

california_guy, I've never been to SanDiego. The winters are cold???

You're house sounds wonderful. I am currently a city gal but when I owned a house in the suburbs I used to love to drive around and see the decorated houses. I decorated for the holidays the first year we had our house but after that I was too lazy and besides we havent had babies yet.
Once we move to Cali and buy again I want to do the whole decorating for the holidays thing. I'm just hoping can handle living in the suburbs again. The decorated houses are great though! Its creates wonderful memories for the kids.

Oh, so is that it?? It's because I'm in the suburbs??? Okay...I don't get into the city much. But that's cool to know. The suburbs aren't for everybody...some people can't stand them...I like the atmosphere because I'm very used to it; I grew up a Burb Brat. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Are you talking about the post above, on this forum? I posted that one in June. It's been a while since then. At that time I didn't have my trip planned and my husband hadn't gotten his raise yet, so I didn't know I was going to be visiting this year at all. That post was very recently bumped up.

We do go to Big Bear a few times a year. My husband's family time-shares a condo there.

No I wasn't saying that at all! I just never see it anywhere besides the suburbs. Why so toucchy???? It wasn't met as an insult? Like I said i find it endearing.I even used to take special rides to go see it!

No, I wasn't being touchy...I wasn't upset at all by your post...I was just realizing that that's probably why I love decorating...sorry if it came off that way! And I definitely realize not everyone loves the 'burbs so I was saying that's a pretty normal feeling...I'm probably not the norm in this way. I wasn't upset at all about your post.
