Anyway, I bought a used fridge on Western two years ago for $200, with no problems. When it was time to move it, I hired a few workers to do the dirty work for me (I'm lazy like that). Slightly annoying, but it's not a make-or-break inconvenience for me.
That's exactly what I thought. Well said.

My thing is if the landlords don't want to offer refrigerators or stoves (which is the absolute WORST), then they should request no more than $300 or $400 in rent.

That's YOU.

This works for YOU.

Most people from other regions of the country won't go for that. It's cheap and GHETTO.
East Coast perspective, Bwahaha. The land of Benjamin Franklin-era infrastructure? What perspective can you share, really? Let me guess--you're a New Yorker. Well then, since you want to nitpick, let's see take a look and see what your city lacks, okay?

ALL-EYS. Alleys! Every city has those--except New York. You pile your trash high into the sky on the streets everyday as a result, even in your most affluent areas, creating lovely scenes like this:

That, and the 42 million rats in the city is NAS-TY, but nowhere near third-world. Even the South Bronx and the worst areas in Philly, Baltimore and Jersey don't approach third-world. It drives me crazy when people throw out that term so thoughtlessly. L.A. isn't even bad by U.S. standards. Fridges--pfft.

Wow that video was crazy! Had no idea NYC had that problem. That is absolutely awful and very harmful! I could not walk down those streets. I wonder if people are getting sick. That guy was funny though "there is no rat" *whispers.

New York does have alleyways though. They're just not being used for some odd reason maybe the odd reason is crackheads have made it their home. I don't know.

Everyone seems so childish going back and forth. So what if Marilyn220 believes that landlords not providing a fridge in rental apartments is "third-worldish"... that's just an opinion. Might be someone who probably has no experience of a true third-world area, and is probably just going off what pops up in mind when he/she thinks of the term. And keep in mind, they did say "ish".

Sheesh... people always have to be right for some reason. And will argue until they're blue in the face (or in this case, until their fingers become numb, lol) ----> Life is different for everyone. What someone thinks is good, someone else might think is bad. EVERYONE has their OWN perspectives on EVERYTHING. So, stop always trying to get others to see YOUR way, and just chill.

As far as the OP's topic.... try looking on FreeCycle.org -- it's pretty cool for when you need something, and when you're looking to get rid of something.

This is a "recent" development of the last ten or so years.

We had alleys in NYC and this is where garbage would be stored. We don't have them any longer. Why? Landlord greed.
