I currently live in Pasadena and work in the Los Feliz area. I’m thinking of moving near the beach when my current lease is up and wanted some advice on which areas to look at. I know it’s probably going to double my commute, but I miss living by the beach so much that I don’t mind a longer commute if it means enjoying my days off more. I know several people at work who commute from Santa Monica and the South Bay area and it seems that the South Bay commute is quicker because of the 110 express lanes. Most of the time I work from 7:30-5:30 pm. Given this information, would I be better off looking at Santa Monica/Marina Del Rey or Manhattan/Hermosa/Redondo Beach? Is it possible to do either one of these commutes in an hour or less at the times I’m working? And will I be able to find a 1-2 BR condo or townhouse with washer/dryer inside for around $2500 or less? Thanks!

Psshh...Maybe Venice Beach? Take Venice to Arlington or Normandie?...either way, I think your crazy for wanting to do that commute every day. Unless you want to move to Santa Monica and wait like a year before the Expo line opens up.

SilverLAKE. I hear the fence around it is gentrifying.

For $2500 you can get a place near the beach and rent a room near work and save on gas and time. The 110 express way will cost you over $10 a day if you don't carpool. You can also take the 105 carpool to the 110 express.

Redondo Beach Pier to the South side of DTLA is about 45 minutes.

If you're willing to commute why can't you just drive the same distance on your days off? You have fewer of those, and I'm sure they aren't ALL spent at the beach.

by the beach as in closer to it? I'm in Mar Vista and work in Hollywood. It takes me about 35 minutes each way, but I head home about 2:50. I wouldn't want to do that commute during afternoon rush hour! The days I've been stuck there until 4, the commute home has been at least an hour if not longer. One friday I left at 3:45 and got home at 5. That's 10 miles... Los Feliz is farther. Avoid Venice! Take Washington. Venice is under construction and just seems to crawl through Culver City.

Santa Monica is probably the best bet since it's the closest to the 10 freeway or if you just want to take Santa Monica Blvd. all the way.
