I'm moving to LA for grad school in August. The following apartments are in my price range (700-1000), but I know next to nothing about the neighborhood makeup (artsy, hipster, business, dangerous, etc.). Any information you could give would be appreciated. I'm also open to apartment suggestions from people currently living in LA. I do have a car & will be attending USC.

7th St Apartments @ 3062 7th St

Mariposa Ave Apartments @ 422 S. Mariposa Ave

Toulaine Apts @ 815 Irolo St

Roxanne Apts @ 3939 Roxanne Ave

Pinafore Apts @ 4510 Pinafore St

The first three look like Koreatown. The last two look like Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw area in South LA (used to be called South Central LA.) Feel free to use the search function of this forum for more info on these areas.

And if you didnt know. USC is in a crap neighborhood period! To the north, south, east and west. Ive always found it the biggest ripoff in the country. Especially when sunny/safe UCLA is about a quarter of the price..

If you want a good neighborhood, you may have to commute a lil. You'll be happier that u did

The area around USC isn't great, but north of campus is generally a fine area given that it's almost exclusively students. Check anywhere between Figueroa and Vermont north of USC up to around 23rd, I wouldn't be surprised if you could find a place for around $1000. Students also live west of campus, but I think the north is safer/more exclusively students.

There are many options depending on your geographic preferences (closer to coast vs. inland), price range, transportation needs, job situation, etc. What is your general situation/preferences?
