Going off the chicago thread (which I thought was quite interesting)

what do LA residents think of Miami, FL? Opinions of it? Thoughts on it. Similarities? Obvious differences?

I think the grittier, non-flashy parts of Miami are awesome--remind me of East LA.

I went inside few Cuban eateries by myself and felt very welcomed when obviously I wasn't Cuban nor a Miami local.

For those who think L.A. has too much crime, rude drivers+citizens, and no culture or identity, look no further than Miami which 5-10 times worse in these regards. From my experience of course. For a while I felt the two were like sister cities on opposite sides of the country with more similarities than differences. Boy, was I wrong.

It's unfortunate the drivers are so bad. They really are rude. LA's drivers are at the least tolerable.

Miami is okay, but I think it's very overrated. South Beach is nice but Miami is far from "clean", imo. Other than both LA and Miami being in warm climates near the ocean, they really aren't that similar. Great place to visit, but don't think I would want to live there.

I think they also have in common their large Hispanic populations, large foreign-born populations as well. But I will say, Miami has LA beat on the beach front--water is warmer and prettier. Beaches are actually hot, where as in LA it always seems cool at the beach.

Is it any wonder that none of the top 10 beaches in the US are in California? All are in Florida, Hawaii or the east coast. California beaches are all either too cold or too polluted

1.Main Beach, East Hampton, New York

2.Kahanamoku Beach, Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii

3. St. George Island State Park, Florida

4. Hamoa Beach, Maui, Hawaii

5. Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, Oahu, Hawaii

6. Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park, Bonita Springs, Florida

7. Cape Florida State Park, Key Biscayne, Florida

8. Cape Hatteras, Outer Banks, North Carolina

9. Coast Guard Beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

10. Beachwalker Park, Kiawah Island, South Carolina

One of the reasons California beaches are only "too polluted" because we are the only state that actually counts pollution correctly. California has higher standards while most other states stick to what the US government requires.

Still doesn't negate the fact that your beaches are cold, which kind of makes them hard to enjoy when u need to wear a hoodie in July.
