San Diego is the second safest large city over 500.000. There are also several other smaller cities that are very safe.

I would put them in all in the Greater Los Angeles area. They get TV stations (through antenna or cable) from LA. I always wondered why the inland areas never got at least one tv news station, even if it's just on cable. Do they feel jipped watching news from LA? I know there are a few radio stations out there that just say "the IE" (KGGI is one). But I wonder if they feel connected to greater LA or separate.

Thousand Oaks definitely feels safe. Simi Valley doesn't always have that feel even though apparently it is.

If you see "LA" as an amalgamation of LA County, the IE, the OC and VC, then yes!

Murrieta is in Riverside County, which is part of the LA-Long Beach-Santa Ana-Ontario Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area. However, many people tend to identify Temecula/Murrieta as more of a bedroom community to San Diego, so its tricky. If you live in Murrieta, chances are you work in San Diego or Orange County and if you fly, you do so out of LAX/Ontario so, yeah, it's tricky...

Not me. I worked in Glendale for awhile back in 2006/2007 and it always felt very safe. Even across the LA City Limits in Eagle Rock and Atwater Village is very safe now, as all of the "Vatos" causing trouble down there from back in the 1980s and early 1990s are grandfathers now and have gays and hipsters for neighbors!

The real surprise for me from that FBI list is that Los Angeles is the safest large city in the nation above 400,000 people, and is listed as safer than San Diego.

#53 Los Angeles
#57 Virginia Beach
#58 San Diego
#64 El Paso
#93 San Jose
#106 Mesa
#110 Long Beach
#114 Raleigh
#122 Las Vegas
#140 Denver
#150 Colorado Springs
#157 Charlotte
(yadda yadda)

Hmmm... NYC, Boston, Philly and Chicago seem to have been left of the FBI rankings for some reason.

My guess (purely a guess) is that Glendale has a really tight-knit Armenian community.

The Armenians in Glendale are there to stay, whether they own or rent--and they don't commit violent crime in a small city where everyone knows somebody.

I attended a nearby high school a few miles away, and every Armenian student in that school knew all the other Armenian students--quite literally.
