I am a nurse in my twenties and moving to the area for a job at Children's Hospital Los Angeles for about 3 months. I would prefer to live within a 30 min or less drive( during high traffic) to the hospital. The closer the better, but I also want a good safe area that has a younger or lively feel to it. The ability to walk places, groceries, coffee etc, would be beneficial. I also will be driving during the hours of 6am to the hospital and leaving to go home around 3:30-4pm. I am not sure if there would be a better direction to be traveling with traffic at those times.

So any suggestions of particular areas or apartment complexes would be helpful. I wouldn't mind paying more per month if the complex was newer and/or had great ammenties such as pool, sauna, gym, gated community/doorman.

I was looking at areas like west hollywood, hollywood, hollywood hills, la brea, miracle mile. Looking at staying west of the hospital so it would be closer to the beach communities for my days off. ( I would preferably live in a beach community, but I don't think the commute from the coast to CHLA would be realistic 5 days a week when I am not even familiar with the area)

Thanks so much!

If you are only staying for three months, I think you probably need to look into an extended stay type thing instead of a regular apartment. The only one I can think of is Corporate Housing, Temporary Apartments, Government Lodging, Serviced Apartments and Extended Stay Housing | Oakwood and they have places in several areas.

If you can find a 3 mo option near the N. Hollywood Red Line station and take that to work, that would be a very good option.

that is an excellent idea unless OP will be working the late night shift. i think the trains stop running at midnight. biggest issue will be finding a short term rental for only 3 months. oakwood in burbank may be an option, but you'll pay a hefty premium for the short term lease.

I have also been searching the options of sub lease through various websites. So any suggestions of ideal areas would be perfect!

,

That's the link I left -- for Oakwood. It looks like they have other places though, in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, etc.

If you can find something just north or east like Silverlake or Los Feliz, that would be ideal. Both those areas have nice street life, safe and a very short drive to the hospital. Other than that, I think Downtown is a good option as it is a short drive up the Hollywood freeway to the hospital and to the beach just take the 10 fwy to Santa Monica/Venice/Malibu. Traffic to the beach areas aren't bad if you go non peak hours or weekends from pretty much anywhere in LA.
