Hi all,

I'm going to be moving to LA in a few months, working downtown. I'm in my 20s and Jewish - not Orthodox, but I want to live within a mile or two of some synagogues (preferably Conservative, although an Orthodox shul where some members are non-observant would also be fine). I'd prefer somewhere where I can find monthly rents of around $1-1.5k. Ideally, somewhere with public transportation would be great, but that's not a dealbreaker.

Any thoughts? Pico-Robertson, maybe? I've also thought about DTLA or somewhere near Los Feliz, but there don't seem to be many shuls around there.

Fairfax District maybe but the last time I was there, I saw a Little Eithiopia sign nearby. Probably still pretty Jewish though.

Other places aren't that close Agoura Hills, Calabasas, North Hollywood.

I don't know enough about the Jewish faith to know exactly what you are looking for, but Valley Village might suit you. There is a large Jewish population there. Rents are more likely to be in your range on that side of the hill, and even if they aren't, a lot of the SFR are huge and have guest houses that are rented out. You'd have multiple options on public transport with the best being walking, driving, or biking to the Redline station at Burbank/Lankershim or the universal city station. It's about a 30-36 minute ride into the four downtown LA stations.

Believe it or not Boyle Heights used to be THE Jewish section of Los Angeles.

Yeah Fairfax District or Pico Robertson. Both are not that close to DTLA, but if you don't mind a commute of up to an hour during traffic, it's doable.

That's about as Jewish as it gets.

When we lived near the Farmer's Market (Fairfax District) a few years ago it took me no more than 20 minutes to drive to work downtown, usually less. Is it that much worse now?.
