Hello Everyone,

I might accept a job in Pasadena but we live near Carson. So what areas should I look . We are family of four with elementary school kids. So safety and good schools are very important. We used to live in Santa Monica and really like that place. What are the areas should I be looking for buying. My budget will be 450k-500k.
Thanks

If you could go a little higher, south pasadena is great with excellent schools and charming (but expensive) homes. Pasadena schools are not good, unfortunately. There are good schools plus cheaper housing out by Glendora area and in la crescenta. Most places with excellent schools are more than $500k to buy, unless you get a condo.

Temple City also has great schools and the area is very underrated.

San Dimas may be another option if you're looking for a detached, single family home within your budget.

First thing that came to my mind was Alhambra.
8/10 on the school ratings site.
Quite a few listings on Zillow less than 500k.
The closer you are to San Marino or South Pasadena probably the better, but there are some pretty good places throughout.

I couldn't begin to compare it to Santa Monica however (or Pasadena for that matter).
