I probably spend about 1000 a month on food, and I rarely go to sit down restaurants. Just your ordinary takeout lunch is going to run you $10-15. If I ate out at sit down restsaurants a lot I can imagine it being far more.

From what I've heard, the city of Santa Monica is cool for the homeless.

I just spent like $20 on lunch , it was a casual type place where you order at the counter .. I had salmon though so it was a decent value with soda . I wouldn't do that every day though.

I'm sure a lot in LA are spending $1000 or more on food especially going out .

Also depends if you include alcohol in the food budget too.

I doubt many are breaking it down by food and liquor
If you go out and have a couple drinks with your meal it would get categorized as "dining out "
Most people don't spend $20 on lunch.

Avg monthly food budget for a single person according to survey data is $302
average cost for food per month for one person

Yeah, it is crazy to spend $1000 a month on food.

I generally don't spend that much , but sometimes it's nice to have something good and it was a good value .

Quality was what you would get at a nice sit down place or probably better

$302 is only like $10 a day

I probably do spend more than average on food but I enjoy it and would rather spend on that than a fancy car or clothes , etc.

Some would rather have the fancy car and eat crap .

Do you spend $302 a month on food ?

Yep just for me. But I don't really cook, don't really do fast food, and I'm on a high protein diet for fitness which makes things much pricier. If I wanted/needed to save money I'd probably cook a bunch of chicken breasts and lean steaks on the grill and keep them in the fridge for a few days at a time.

I do cook for myself a lot and I still spend ~$1000 a month on food. Hell, just the produce for juicing is like $302 a month...

I spend around $300 for food. That includes going out to eat at restaurants on the weekends. I eat really frugally during the week though. I buy my meats in bulk on sale and freeze them then leave them out to thaw as I need them. You can get produce cheaper too if you know where to shop. I never eat out during the week, even for lunch. That's what makes the food budget go crazy.
