You would have to rent a room and live VERY frugally. A place of your own is completely out of the question with your income.

Not even a studio. At best renting a room in a house (from a generous landlord), maybe sleeping on a couch, or sharing a room in an apartment, i.e. splitting a one bedroom with someone.

I think most are going to want over $700 for a room .

Even if you found something for $700 that's only $300 month for all other expenses .

I'm thinking only way this is possible is some kind of section 8 or subsidized housing .

Usually you need disability or kids for that I believe .

$1000 month total income is really hard anywhere in the country .

I'm guessing the $1000 is part time income , is there a reason why you don't work full time ?

the reason why I only work part time is that I have a high school education with a C average. I'm wondering, not an apartment close to the ocean or downtown but a place near Pico/Stewart or Santa Monica/Centinela. maybe it doesn't cost as much there??

The closer you are to the ocean(or the nightlife/hot spots) the more expensive it gets. You just can't afford it. You need to reevaluate your priorities and set attainable goals for yourself.

The better question is why do you want to live there? If you're only making a grand a month, what is it going to offer you in your life that your current location can't? Santa Monica is also one of the most expensive places in LA to rent. Even if you could get into a roommate situation, you're looking at around $700 or 800 minimum.

Rather than think about what you can do with a low income, why don't you focus on what you can do to raise your income?

$1000 a month? That's only $250 a week. It sounds like you just got your first job and already want to move out. I honestly don't think you can live anywhere, let alone an expensive area in an already expensive city with that low of an income.
