Seriously, folks. Its gotta be one of the biggest rivalries on citydata.com.

It is way cheaper to live there, but that's for a reason.

Are they on crack? Or just jealous?

I hear they have good crack in Houston. We used to have that market cornered but they are beating us at our game. The Texas economic miracle continues to erode our once solid economic base.

I've noticed it, but Los Angeles and California in general is always getting bashed on CD. It's nothing new. I don't let it bother me.

People have a right to think what they want, no matter how ignorant they are.

I haven't been to Houston in a long time (and probably won't go back- too many other places I'd rather visit than East Texas). BUT... I hear Houston is now a cool city with a lot to offer. The rivalry with LA is legit, if somewhat lop-sided. It will only heat up when Houston passes Chicago and becomes the #3 city.

Maybe folks familiar with both towns, and who are willing to be objective, can chime in.

Apparently a lot of people leave Los Angeles for Houston because of the lower cost of living(?), but does being cheaper make Houston a better city? Is that a good enough criteria to determine how great a city is? How close does Houston come to Los Angeles as far as available amenities and diversity of amenities?

You cannot compare LA and Houston without looking at the states they both are in and the people both states attract. While Houston may be a popular city for young people looking for jobs, its still in Texas so I really don't see how it can ever be "cooler" than LA.

Ive never noticed ANY kind of rivalry between the two cities at all. Houston is really not so cheap anymore thanks to high fallutin californians who have overpriced all of the real estate for the locals. by the way, they're called "HoustonIANS".

Both cities are sprawling... That's where the similarity ends. LA is sexier. Houston is hotter (but not in a sexy way). One got jobz, the other one, not so much. One is cheaper, the other, well, not so much. One has more natural beauty, the other, filled with big box chains and flat as a pancake. One has oil douche, the other Hollywood douche. One is full of good ole boyz, the other, pretty boyz. One is riddled with natural disasters, the other, not so often. When things go wrong, one will say the government needs more involvement, the other will say the government's too involved. Everything is bigger in Texas, and I'm not just talking about the womynz. These are generalizations. Read with a grain of salt. A place is what you make the most out of yourself. Looking forward to seeing where this thread goes. In the meantime, will try to get my trapped tongue out of my cheek. Lol

Yes, let's blame it on the Californians or Californites.

Any evidence you've seen that the CA ex-pats liberal ways are starting to rub off on the locals? Or are most of them conservative political refugees who fled the People's Republic?
