Okay thank you will put Glendale in the search list. I see "south" glendale looks like a pretty decent commute toward west hollywood. I mean I know there will be some commute issues as long as it's not more then 1 hour...
Thanks for your advice, this LA is HUGE and hard to research even if you've lived there briefly!

Glendale is an option as in Montrose(very nice area and you might find rent cheaper). But if your husband is going to be working at the Design Center in WH, it is land locked. It's going to take more than an hour if he is working normal business areas from WH to Glendale, Eagle Rock, or Montrose.

It's mostly going to be surface streets. Than going over Laurel Canyon to the 134/101 to get the Glendale area, I would say 90 minutes, unless he is working odd hours.

I feel you, OP. While 110k sounds like a nice salary, when that's the only income in the house, it goes fast if you have kids. Besides the rent/mortgage, you've got retirement savings, life insurance, college savings for the kids, and food for a family if four and that doesn't even consider additional debt such as cars or credit cards and plans for family vacations. That being said, you can certainly afford LA on that salary, it will just feel pretty middle class.

Default affording LA

I couldn't agree more. LA has so much to offer a family, but the biggest complaint is how far away all the decent priced places are. I'm really not sure it's the best idea.

That's why most middle class families don't live in "LA" but instead a suburb with an avg commute of 1 hour to work.

Agree with this. Schools especially at the secondary levels. LAUSD is horrible, horrible at the middle and high school levels.
