Talk about a racket. I don't know if you've noticed, but the air is cleaner here than its ever been. Why? Overpriced special gas, and OBD II computing in cars. Smog checks are antiquated.

When was the last time we had a "smog day"?

Smog checks are just another tax on working people.

It must be a really lucrative buisness because there's a smog check on every corner here. The EPA is a Democrat party huge buisness that has to keep regulating and keep increasing regulations or its out of buisness and the gravy train.
$60 very other year another absolutely unnessary Democrat party tax on everyone. Plus 45 minutes out of your life, plus getting your car smogged is nerve wracking causing stress on everyone.

Why do you think that is? Sounds like the anti vaccine argument. "We don't need vaccines, polio has been eradicated."

Smog stations are a good idea in theory but everyone I know knows "a guy" who will pass anyone, for the right price.

Yeah I was going to say that same thing too..I've heard this also.

Lot's of corruption.

If the government really wanted to regulate it they would have to own the facilities or do it at the DMV or something...but that's probably not something the gov wants to get into or can afford to get into.

Buy a new car and you don't have to deal with it for 5 years. I come from Chicago where the smog centers are run by the government. I'm not sure that's an improvement over CA although it's cheaper.
