I was curious to know what is the Pakistani community in Los Angeles like (number of people, professional demographics, where in the LA area are they mainly concentrated, availability of decent Pakistani restaurants etc)? Any information you can provide would be great.

Thanks so much

There is an Indian/Pakistani shop on Hawthorne Blvd/130th St. where I buy my paneer, garam masala, and the like. There are a few Paki/Indi restaurants on Inglewood Avenue in Hawthorne and Lawndale. My daughter's nanny was a Pakistani lady whose children attended a private Muslim school somewhere in Hawthorne, so I am guessing there might be several Pakistani families in the Hawthorne area. My daughter's former nanny lives in Torrance, and I have heard there are quite a few families in Torrance as well.

While I have never eaten at El Watan Halal Restaurant, I have driven by a few times and it always smells great around the afternoon/evening. I have read in their reviews that people travel from other cities for the authentic cuisine. My daughter's nanny said their lamb and samosas are wonderful.

i work with a pakistani who lives in thousand oaks, but he told me there is no central community per se. however, there are some cricket fields in van nuys where i'd imagine you could find a lot of pakistanis on the weekends.

Thank you all for the feedback… while I am not by any means ‘exclusive’ it is always nice to have some of your own kinda people, so to speak, within the vicinity, Pakistani food for me being the biggest need in that regard .

I hope to move to the LA area sometime in the foreseeable future, currently trying to see how to best plan this move in terms of securing a job, COL, identifying decent neighborhoods and such (would be moving from the DCmetro area). Only been to LA once for about a couple of days, absolutely loved it!

Pakistani American here, Although there are not as many Pakistanis as NY, there's a decent sized Pakistani population in LA. Mostly in Artesia/Torrance/Anaheim. There are some Pakistani restaurants, my favorite being Al Noor in Torrance area.

This thread is old, I know, but I recently found out that Reseda, in the San Fernando Valley, has a large Pakistani community.
